The Club has been in existence at the current site since 1907. It is a members’ Club – owned and run by and for the benefit of members. The Current Clubhouse was opened by Fred Perry (Stockport’s very own three times Wimbledon Champion) in 1998.
The Clubhouse contains modern changing rooms, a bar with satelite television and food service, a micro-sports hall (which is used by both the Club Coaches and hired out to other groups including Indoor Bowls, Yoga, Karate and Tumble Tots.) There are baby changing facilities and accessible toilet facilities available on the ground floor.
There are regular social activities held throughout the year for both Senior and Junior members. These are usually advertised well in advance and we try to offer a range of events to suit all members, from Christmas Parties to Tennis and Food. All events will be advertised in the Clubhouse and on the Calendar.
The Club tries to keep members informed of events throughout the year:
- with regular email Newsbytes which are also recorded for review on the Private Members Only Site.
- via Facebook and Twitter – to keep members up-to-date on individual’s and team achievements – and other things that have happened around the Club.
- on this website – to keep members informed what Coaching is available and what is coming up.
Tennis Balls – are provided for inter-club matches, tournament finals and Club Nights. Members should buy tennis balls for their own personal use. The Club Coach supplies a variety of ‘New’ tennis balls for purchase, by members, at preferential rates. The Coach also provides a racket re-stringing service and other items for sale (e.g. grips, vibration dampeners, etc.)
Floodlights – To trigger the floodlights for the courts special cards are available for purchase. Each card provides ½ an hour lighting and the lights are automatically switched off at 10.00p.m. If there is any problem with the lights or grounds please advise a committee member or the Club Coach.
As an affiliated LTA Club we receive an allocation of Wimbledon tickets from the LTA – we hold a ballot for these amongst interested members. To be eligible you need to be a registered British Tennis Member (which is free) with the LTA and have opted in on the LTA site for Wimbledon Tickets.
The Club Committe will consider requests for hire of the Clubhouse – preference is given to current club members. The Sports Hall may also be hired by third party organisations, as mentioned above, although available slots are extremely limited. All applications should be made via the “Contact Us” forms on this website giving full details.
The Club operates in accordance with LTA guidelines with policies and procedures in place to to cover all aspects of club management and to ensure the welfare of all members. These policies can be found on the members website and in the display trays in the main corridor of the clubhouse.
